Class Descriptions

Skating School Classes and Levels

Tot Starter(3-5 years of age): Young skaters learn basic ice fun and safety!  Test elements include skate across the rink, 2 foot glide, dip, forward swizzle, and backward wiggle.

Tot Pre-Alpha(3-5 years of age): Skaters learn the same elements as the 6-12 Pre-Alpha class, only at a Tot testing standard.  Test elements include 1 foot glide (left and right), backward wiggle, backward swizzle, forward zig zags, and a snowplow stop.

Tot Alpha & Beta(3-5 years of age): Skaters learn the same elements as the 6-12 Alpha and Beta class, only at a Tot testing standard.  Test elements include forward stroking, forward crossovers (left and right), one foot snowplow stop (left and right), bunny hop, zig zag into spin, backward stroking, backward crossovers (left and right), T stops (left and right), hockey glides (left and right), and 2 foot turns (left and right).  It is expected for Tots to attend this class for two semesters, because it is combined levels with more difficult elements.

6-12 Starter: Skaters learn basic ice fun and safety!  Test elements include skate across the rink, 2 foot glide, dip, forward swizzle, and backward wiggle.

Pre-Alpha: Test elements include 1 foot glides (left and right), backward wiggle, backward swizzle, forward zig zags, and 2 foot snowplow stops.

Alpha: Test elements include forward stroking, forward crossovers (left and right), one foot snowplow stop (left and right), bunny hop, and zig zag into spin.

Beta: Test elements include backward stroking, backward crossovers (left and right), T stops (left and right), hockey glides (left and right), and 2 foot turns (left and right).

Gamma: Test elements include mohawks (left and right), outside 3 turn (left and right), backward T stop, tap toe jump (left and right), and hockey stop (left and right).

Delta: Test elements include forward outside edges, forward inside edges, inside 3 turns (left and right), lunge, and attitude.

Freestyle 1: Test elements include forward spiral (left and right), waltz jump, 1/2 flip jump, 2 foot spin, and backward outside and backward inside edges.

Freestyle 2: Test elements include 1/2 lutz jump, 1/2 toe walley, ballet jump, 1 foot spin, and dance step sequence.

Freestyle 3: Test elements include toe loop jump, salchow jump, change foot spin, back pivot, and dance step sequence.

Freestyle 4: Test elements include loop jump, 1/2 loop jump, flip jump, sit spin, and dance step sequence.

Freestyle 5: Test elements include lutz jump, axel jump, camel spin, camel spin combination, and dance step sequence.

Freestyle 6: Test elements include double salchow jump, jump combination, layback spin or sit change sit spin, split jump, and spin combination.

Power Stroking Class: (freestyle 1 and above) Skaters focus on power, strength and stamina while learning basic skating skills and explosive movement!

Hockey Power Class: Hockey skaters only...teaches hockey players proper use of the blade, getting the most power out of your push, proper skating technique, strength and stamina.

Jumps and Spins: (Freestyle 1 and above) Helps figure skaters to strengthen their jumps and spins, using proper jump and spin technique and training.  Overhead and pole harness is available in this class!

Adult MIF: Adults only class focusing on Adult Moves In The Field testing...helps to strengthen and teach better understanding of posture, pattern, turn quality, and skating skills.

Adult Dance: Also adults only...helps skaters to learn dance patterns, timing, and allows skaters to partner with one another in a fun, supportive environment.
